In 2020, Taylor Bros was commissioned to build seven caravans for the Australian Antarctic Division. These caravans were fit out to suit various needs of the AAD, including kitchen and mess, living quarters, science labs and sanitary spaces.
The caravans required special equipment for the extraordinary conditions they would be put under. This equipment includes snow melters and heating systems suited to the extremes of Antarctica.
Each caravan is designed to remain functional in temperatures down to -50°c, and can withstand ambient temperatures down to -85°c and wind speeds of 270km/h in winter.
